1. Ukraine claims hundreds of Russians killed by missile attack

- Ukraine says around 400 Russian soldiers have died in a missile attack on the occupied Donetsk region.

- Russian officials have contested the figure, admitting to only 63 of their troops being killed in the blast. Neither claim has been verified.

- The attack hit a building in the city of Makiivka, where Russian forces were thought to be stationed.

2. Australia helicopter collision: Four dead in mid-air incident over Gold Coast

- Four people have died after a mid-air collision between two helicopters near Seaworld on Australia's Gold Coast.

- Those who died were travelling in the same helicopter. Three other passengers are in a critical condition.

- Queensland Police say initial investigations suggest the crash happened as one aircraft was taking off and the other was landing.

3. Rescuers race to free Vietnamese boy trapped in shaft

- Rescuers in Vietnam are trying to free a 10-year-old boy trapped deep inside a narrow shaft at a building site.

- Reports say Ly Hao Nam was searching for scrap metal when he fell into the hollow concrete pile in southern Dong Thap province on New Year's Eve.

- Teams have battled since then to free him, pumping oxygen into the 35mm-deep support pillar to help him breathe.

- He was head crying for help 2 days ago but gave no response when a camera was lowered down the hole on Monday.
